Global rescue teams arrive in Japan

Monday, March 14th, 2011
Vittorio Hernandez – AHN News

Tokyo, Japan (AHN) – Rescue teams from the international community continued to arrive in Japan to help the third richest country in the world cope with the devastating magnitude 9 and tsunamis that hit Japan Friday.

Among the teams that arrived Sunday at the Narita International Airport:

  • 41 members of a rescue team and three dogs from Germany
  • 27 workers and nine dogs from Switzerland
  • 15 workers from China’s emergency team
  • 72 rescuers from the U.S
  • 45 workers from New Zealand, and
  • 72 rescue workers and 2 dogs from Australia.

The German and Swiss teams will be deployed to the city of Tome in Miyagi Prefecture, while the U.S. team will be sent to Otunato, Iwate Prefecture. However, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said the destinations of the team could still be changed depending on the situation at the place.

So far, 69 countries and regions, and five international organizations have offered Japan assistance. However, Japan could not accept yet all offers of help because the country still has to map out the disaster zones.

Japan, however, sought donations of tents, blankets and other life-saving supplies to prevent the death toll from the quake and tsunamis to exceed the estimates of 10,000. The official death toll was at 1,596, but thousands of people are still missing. For instance, at the port town of Minamisanriku in Miyagi Prefecture about 9,500 residents are still unaccounted.

To worsen the situation, night-time temperature dipped below zero in parts of the ravaged country. About 590,000 Japanese are living in temporary shelters, including 210,000 who used to live near the Fukushima nuclear power plant – which exploded Friday and Monday – and have to be evacuated from the radioactive zone.

Canada said it is ready with two disaster assistance response teams and teams of medical, engineering, humanitarians and search and rescue experts ready for deployment upon Japan’s call.

The Philippines is organizing a team from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to help in search and rescue, and relief operations in Japan once Tokyo seeks the country’s help. The Philippine Red Cross is sending also a team, which includes a psycho-social expert, two dog handlers and two K-9 units. There are about 305,000 Filipinos living in Japan, most of them entertainers and children of the entertainers with Japanese men.

Windsor Genova – AHN News News Writer

Manila, Philippines (AHN) – The government of the Philippines and local crewing agencies condemned Wednesday the killing of a Filipino sailor by Somali pirates during a botched rescue of a hijacked cargo vessel in the Gulf of Aden on Jan. 26.

The labor and foreign affairs departments issued statements condemning the shooting death of bosun Farolito Vallega, 48, by pirates angered by the attempted takeover of the Beluga Nomination.

Members of an anti-piracy patrol vessel tried to retake the vessel from the pirates that hijacked the ship 390 nautical miles north of Port Victoria in the Seychelles on Jan. 22. In the ensuing commotion, 46-year-old cook Ferdinand Aquino and 26-year-old wiper Elviro Salazar, both Filipinos, escaped from the pirates by jumping overboard. The cook was later rescued but the wiper remains missing.

Seven of the 12-member crew of the Beluga Nomination are Filipinos.

The labor department ordered the provision of assistance to the families of the dead and missing sailors.

Meanwhile, Marlow Navigation Philippines, which hired the Filipino crew of Beluga Nomination, said the shipowner is negotiating with the pirates for the release of the hostages and is searching for the body of the missing sailor.

Hundreds of Stranded Tourists Rescued in Nepal

Sunday, November 21st, 2010
Anil Giri – AHN News Correspondent

Kathmandu, Nepal (AHN) – In a major operation jointly lunched by the Nepal Army and Nepali private Airlines, more than 2,000 tourists, stranded in Lukla due to inclement weather that made it impossible for airline companies to operate flights to and from the airstrip there for the past week, were rescued on Saturday. Nepal Army helicopters and other private airlines were mobilized to rescue them from the only airport of the Everest region, Lukla.

“The passengers were stranded due to bad weather there. The rescue was possible due to good weather on Saturday and the help from Nepal Army,” said Sarad Pradhan, media consultant at the Nepal Tourism Board(NTB).

According to Pradhan the Army helicopter was mobilized on Saturday in coordination with trekking agents at the request of the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, NTB, Trekking Agents Association of Nepal and Himalayan Rescue Association.

Flights that were cancelled from November 12 due to extremely foggy weather conditions in the region resumed Friday when weather slightly cleared up. Several dozen people chose Friday to trek to Jiri rather than try their luck with flights, a close destination from Lukla. Trekking agencies and the Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA), a non-profit organization that seeks to reduce casualties in the Himalayas, put the number of stranded people in Lukla as of Thursday at over 2,000. Stranded foreigners are paying as much as $ 1,000 for a half an hour flight back to Kathmandu.

The Nepal Army’s Directorate of Public Relations informed that Army helicopters rescued 184 passengers who had poor health condition or had short visa term in Nepal .Among them were eight Nepalis and the remain were foreign tourists who were flown from Lukla to Lamidanda to Kathmandu.

Bad Credit Loans Rescue Consumers From Credit Crisis

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

As the entire world succumbs to the historic unraveling of the financial markets, borrowers across the UK turn to bad credit loans to rescue them, explains Andy Hygate from www.loansbadcredit.org.uk. In their time of need these special lenders offer loans, mortgages, and credit to people who have damaged credit history, lower credit scores, or a lack of assets.

They are not new to the financial world, but remain relatively unfamiliar to most borrowers because during happy economic times most consumers do not require a bad credit loan. But as the credit situation worsens, bad credit lenders are now coming to the forefront to offer solid financial assistance as more conventional lenders retreat – leaving their customers to fend for themselves.

Banks are afraid to lend because they first have to solve their own credit problems. These days confidence in their ability to manage money has deteriorated so much that they are even refusing to lend to one another, and the governments of the world have to give them handouts.

The UK government has had to inject up to £37bn into the Royal Bank of Scotland, HBOS, and Lloyds, and central banks around the world are having to pour similar cash into their own banks to keep them from failing.

The UK Treasury recently unveiled a wide-ranging emergency rescue plan that will cut shareholder dividend payouts. That can hurt shareholders, including pensioners and those companies who manage retirement funds for their employees.

The government will also buy up a majority stake in RBS, but the bailout will cost UK taxpayers as much as £20 billion. Meanwhile Lloyds will get a package worth as high as £17 billion, and taxpayers may wind up also paying for a government bailout of Barclays to the tune of nearly £7 billion.

At the same time, UK Treasury officials are negotiating with the Ambassador of Iceland, to try and figure out a way to recoup millions of pounds that were invested by British local authorities in Icelandic banks that have since collapsed as that nation totters on the verge of outright bankruptcy.

Although the stock markets may rise – or fall – the fact remains that those living in the UK face a looming crisis that may go from a recession into a harsh depression. Already companies are starting to cut back on their overheads by trimming the workforce, and social service support systems for newly unemployed citizens are feeling an increased strain on their own limited resources. While ordinary consumers struggle to make ends meet, lenders continue to make it harder to borrow at affordable rates. Nationwide raised its mortgage rates considerably, despite the Bank of England base rates being cut by half a point.

Britain’s second largest mortgage lender also said that all new borrowers except for first-time buyers must come up with a down payment deposit of at least 15 percent, and first-time buyers must provide 10 per cent. Nationwide used to routinely lend up to 90 percent of the value of a property, and gave first timers loans for up to 95 percent. Those days are over, though, and the number of lenders willing to offer inexpensive loans is dwindling fast.

But providers of Loans for Bad Credit have not suffered the same kinds of severe losses that their traditional counterparts are experiencing. For that reason these bad credit lenders are able to continue offering a variety of different loan products to help UK homeowners mortgage or refinance their houses, buy Cars, pay tuition, or pay off high interest rate credit cards.

Bad Credit Loans Rescue you From Difficult Financial Situations

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

While you are stuck in bad credit, things become even worse for you as far as finances are concerned. The requirement of money may arise at any time but obtaining them becomes a difficult feat. Bad credit loans help the borrower by providing the necessary amount for his need.

Bad credit loans provide money to the borrowers who are suffering from bad credit history. This bad credit history may be due to the missed repayments that the borrower has left in the past. Defaults, arrears or county court judgments also lower the credit score of the borrower. A credit score lower than 580 means a bad credit score for the borrower.

Bad credit loans may be taken up as secured or unsecured loans according to the need of the borrower and the availability of collateral with him. Unsecured bad credit loans may be borrowed when the borrower needs a small amount or does not have collateral to pledge with the lender. Amount in the range of £1000-£25000 can be borrowed for a term of 6 months to 10 years.

Through secured option of bad credit loans, the borrower can take up an amount in the range of £5000-£75000 for his needs. The term of repayment for secured bad credit loans is 5-25 years. The rate of secured form is lower than unsecured loan option in bad credit loans. This is because the lender is convinced of repayment due to attachment of collateral with the lender.

The borrower can take up bad credit loans to fulfill any personal needs that he has. They may be debt consolidation, home improvement, car purchase, wedding expenses, educational expenses etc. All these needs can be fulfilled using bad credit loans.

Online research can help the borrowers avail lower rates of interest if they take up proper research and compare the loan quotes sent in numerous lenders which are present online.

It is with bad credit loans that the borrowers can obtain dual benefit of fulfilling needs and also improving credit history by timely repayment.
